![]() ![]() ![]() You want to refill pan with roughly the same amount you just drained. At this point put the plug back with fresh gasket and torque to 25 ft-lb. A small stream will remain for a few mintues, wait until you get a slow drip. I like to use a large, shallow drain pan (roughly 2x3') under the primary drain pan to catch any splashes. Whatever you use for oil changes should work to catch the fluid. The drain plug is 19mm, use caution if hot. (Put your safety goggles on now if you're into the safety thing.) Step 2: Drain and refill transmission pan Consider getting some beer for when you're finished. Maybe a trip to the local auto store for anything you need for later stages. Now drive around for 10-20 minutes to get the tranny fluid hot. Or connect a hose and route to drain bucket (not explained here.) Verify that your plan is going to work before going forward - if you're using a bucket, does it fit under the radiator area? If your container is taller, or truck lower, you might want to drive the front wheels up on blocks of wood, ramps, etc. This allows you to disconnect a hose and have it drain straight into the bucket. If you're using a standard 5-gallon bucket, about 35cm tall, it will just fit under radiator assembly on a stock-height 4wd Titan on 33" tires (stock Off-Road package size). (bucket is 350mm tall, holds 20 quarts, each quart is roughly 17.5 mm of height.) You could repeat adding quarts of water and adding marks, or just do some simple math. I took a standard 5-gallon bucket (as found at Home Depot) and gave it quart markings on both sides with a Sharpie. Prepare large drain bucket with quart markings. If you have a known competent shop that will do the job right, it may be worth having them do it. Perhaps running changes on the assembly line (or between model years) happened and you'll have to do something different. These instructions worked for an 05 4wd XE. This can be a messy and potentially dangerous procedure. Optional - A read of MA-21 through MA-22 in factory shop manual (available online, do a search here.) Optional - Fire extinguisher in case fluid ends up on something it shouldn't Optional - Assistant to start/stop engine and laugh when you spill fluid all over Optional - Large shallow "garage floor saver" pan in case of spills (again Blitz.) Transmission funnel - think long flexible tube attached to bottom (Blitz makes a good one) Pliers for removing spring clamps on tranny tube Gasket for drain plug, part number 11026-A60005 (appears to be same part as oil pan drain plug gasket)įluid - I used 15 qts of Matic-J, part number 999MP-MTJ00P per quart Here's an attempt at redeeming myself for having such a low thread count.ĥ gallon bucket or equivalent to flush old fluid into I'm a longtime lurker, and have gotten a lot of good advice just watching and doing searches. ![]()
